Eritrean & Ethiopian Kitchen

Zula Habesha

A taste of Eritrea & Ethiopia in the heart of Manchester — injera baked daily, stews simmered slowly, and coffee poured from the jebena.

Our Story

Named after a harbour on the Red Sea

Zula is an ancient coastal town in Eritrea, a place where traders, travellers and neighbours have met for centuries. We took the name because that is what a Habesha table is: a meeting place.

Everything here is cooked the way it is at home. Berbere and mitmita blended by hand, tsebhi stews left on a low flame until they turn deep and glossy, and injera fermented over days so it arrives soft and slightly sour.

Habesha food is eaten together, from one plate, with your hands — no cutlery, no separate portions. It ends the only way it should: with the coffee ceremony, green beans roasted at the table while incense burns.
